Bureau for International Cooperation of Education & Culture, Republic of Indonesia DARMASISWA is a scholarship program open to all foreign students from countries with which Indonesia has friendly relations. Participants can study Indonesian languages, arts, music and crafts at any of the state universities and colleges participating in the program. The DARMASISWA program was first started in 1974, when only students from countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) were allowed entry into the program. However, by 1976, other students from countries such as Hungary, Norway, Mexico, Sweden, Canada, France, Australia and the USA were also allowed to participate.
