Many regions and cities in Indonesia are safe for travel by US citizens and other foreign nationals. Nevertheless, for their own safety and with respect to certain domestic conditions, we strongly advise the visa applicant to contact the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate or their travel agency for current information of their travel destinations within Indonesia.

Furthermore, there are three regions in Indonesia that require special permission for travel: Aceh, Maluku, and Irian Jaya. Please inform the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate about any intention to visit these restricted regions; this also applies to those who work there (e.g. Freeport employees, religious workers, etc.). The visa applicant should apply for special authorization as early as possible; it may take more than two weeks before special permission can be granted or denied. Visitors who enter these restricted regions without authorization are subject to arrest, detention, and prosecution according to Indonesian law.

Most visas are Single-Entry. This type of visa can only be used once to enter Indonesia, after which it becomes void. The holder can only stay up to sixty (60) days.

A Multiple-Entry visa allows the holder to enter Indonesia several times. This type of visa is valid for one (1) year. However, the holder can only stay up to sixty (60) days per entry in Indonesia.

Please be advised that all Indonesian representatives (embassy/consulate) hold the right to deny any applicant who are deemed ineligible without disclosing any reason.
